Shamandome at Burning Man

Shamanism was introduced to Black Rock City in 2005 when Windspirit and Earlyman joined the Heebeegeebee Healers, and offered shamanic healings and workshops. Joined by Yogini in 2006, the demand was so great, and their work so well received, that they spent the entire week working with hardly a break with clients to help heal their needs. In 2006, Habibi constructed the first Shamandome - a 19' diameter geodesic dome - which the shamanistas promptly decorated, blessed, and proceeded to further immerse themselves and the Burner community into the magic of the Shamanic State of Reality. In 2007 we emerged as our own camp, and swelled to 15 campers - including Khats and others. We also added a second 14' dome, and again were busy from dawn to dusk. In 2008 we joined the newly formed Nectar Village, more experienced healers joined, and Windspirit generously created and outfitted the kitchen tent. In 2009 we added a 24' dome. In 2010 the camp grew to a tight knit group  of 25, we added the Sacred Sexploratorium - a 16' dome, and we served over 2,000 clients.

This year (2011) we are on track to:
  • double the number of campers to our maximum of 50
  • add a new 32' dome for the larger shaman classes
  • add at least two more domes for individual healing sessions
  • add a new 32' dome as the main Sacred Sexploratorium
  • improve the core kitchen layout and functionality
  • Add a second kitchen for self-reliant campers

Most of our main-line shaman activities take place during the day. The Sacred Sexploratorium will also offer day sessions, and may have some early evening sessions open to the public. Between the hours of 10pm to 10am, it is open only to members of Shamandome camp and their immediate guests.

Nectar Village has become one of the premier villages in Black Rock City. We are joined by the following camps:
  • Heebeegeebee Healers - a collective of 65 alternative modality healers known for their massages, Reiki, etc., and for the exceptional classroom workshops on yoga, meditation, non-violent communication, monkey chant, etc.
  • Camp Contact - offering lessons, space and a great sound system and dance floor dedicated to contact dancing
  • Steam Bath Project - offering the playa's own sauna/steam bath
  • Sno Koan Solar - offering snow cones in the late afternoon, but more importantly, a solar array that silently harnesses the sun to meet the electrical needs of our village and for Comfort and Joy camp - over 500 people!
  • Bumblepuss - The organizers of the village and the common art and infrastructure, general roustabouts, bon vivants, and goat-herders

As a member of Nectar Village, Shamandome campers enjoy special privileges such as after-hours access to the Steam Bath, preferred bookings at the HeeBeeGeeBees,  participation in Village events such as the inimitable Goat Slapping, and bragging rights to one of the coolest villages on the playa.
