Camp Dues and Duties

KARMA YOGA SERVICE

As members of a mindfully committed Service Camp, Shamandome campers give a minimum of four (4) hours of participation per day, whatever their roles are in the camp.

Shamandome is NOT a "party camp". We accept only those who are committed to serving the public and each other through physical labor, emotional support and spiritual healing.
You will be energized by giving back to the community. Our success is created by every camper's participating fully in their role. When everyone freely gives of themselves, the collective whole blooms with love. This is the transformative “group” experience that sends our campers home with great personal satisfaction.
If you are not comfortable with this environment, there are plenty of playful camps at Burning Man - enjoy, and definitely come pay us a visit!

CAMP DUES

Basic Camp Dues is now $400 per camper.
(All our expenses have risen dramatically over the last few years, and this is our first Basic Dues increase in almost ten years. Shamandome pretty much operates in the red.) T
o encourage early application and payment, Camp Dues will increase by $50 each month from mid-April to mid-July - and we have an Early Bird special!

Your Basic Camp Dues pay for:

FOOD
Purchase and transport of food for the entire camp, which provides each day (including Build Week):
- a "Do it yourself" Breakfast
- a delicious midday meal prepared by our fabulous Kitchen Leads and Kitchen Fairies
- an evening meal featuring luscious leftovers from lunch with added fixings and trimmings.

WATER
Potable water for drinking, cooking & showers.

GREY WATER SERVICE
Every drop we discard is collected and removed -- Leave No Trace!

SHOWER
The camp erects a shower structure and provides "sun shower" bags & grey water disposal.

SHADE STRUCTURE
A shady spot to pitch your tent -- on a "First come first served" basis (we have plenty).

Communal shade "chill" structures, dining, and lounge area. We build a complete tent campus.

CONTAINER/TRAILER
Fees for storing our trailer (with all that infrastructure in it) throughout the rest of the year and transporting it to & from the playa.

POWER
We get our electricity from solar cells and a gasoline-powered generator, to run refrigerators and appliances in our kitchen, a camp phone charging station, lighting & sound equipment, etc.

BIKE
Your use of a camp bike while on the playa -- also on a "First come, first served" basis. If you can bring your own bike for 2023, please do, as we may not have enough for everyone this year. (BTW, not all our bikes are perfect, but we provide tools, basic supplies, and a Bike Fairy who can help you keep your ride rolling). You will need to bring your own bike lock.

INDIVIDUAL USE OF THE DOMES
Use of domes "after hours" for individual work or a spontaneous circle.

SUPPORTING OUR BUILD WEEK TEAM
Sunday night (Build Week Eve) dinner meeting and hotel accommodations -- in shared rooms -- in Reno, as well as food & water for the team.

BUILD WEEK FEE
Build Week is a magical, transformative event unto itself, as any veteran burner from any camp will tell you, but it's not for everyone. As an extra incentive join the
Build Team (and to ensure it is fully supported), Shamandome includes a refundable $100 fee in our Camp Dues. If you join our Build Team and you arrive in Black Rock City by 6pm on Monday of Build Week, you will receive a $100 refund on your Camp Fee after the Burn. We welcome campers to join the Build Team later that week - all Build Week service will be sorely needed and heartfully honored - but we must reserve this refund for those who can arrange to arrive the first day of the Build.
(The number of Build Week passes the camp receives from Burning Man is limited. Please apply early.)

BREAKDOWN DEPOSIT
Shamandome includes a fully refundable $250 deposit in our Camp Dues, which will be returned after the burn to all who help vigorously and enthusiastically until 6PM that day. We really don't want this money. We'd rather have every reason to ask you to camp with us again.

CAMP DUES SCHEDULE:
 $400 + $350 refundable fees = $750  by 5/15/23
 $450 + $350 refundable fees = $800  by 6/15/23
 $500 + $350 refundable fees = $850  by 7/15/23
 $550 + $350 refundable fees = $900  after 7/15/23

EARLY BIRD - send your Camp Dues by Feb 28 and take $100 off - $650

Note: if you are accepted into camp and pay the Camp Dues, then find you are unable to attend, you may request a refund (less a $25 processing fee) -- until July 15th. Should you cancel after that, one-half of your Camp Dues is refundable -- until August 15th, when no refunds will be granted.

Your Camp Dues supports more than the Shamandome community.
They benefit every Burner who visits our camp.

As a SHAMANDOME CAMPER, you promise to :

-- arrive at camp by SUNDAY of the burn (if you're not on our Build Team), so you can help with last-minute tasks to prepare the camp for receiving the public.

-- work at least one kitchen shift, whatever other tasks you perform.

-- commit to the Ten Principles of Burning Man - especially Leave No Trace.

--- take at least two bags of camp-generated trash or recycling with you at the end of the burn, if you drive.
(Bring bungee cords and maybe a net or tarp, for lashing bags onto the top of your car.)

-- Lovingly serve your appointed shifts supporting our public offerings, the kitchen crew, or infrastructure, for at least four hours per day (you will have one day off to play).

--- Joyously help disassemble, store and preserve our beautiful camp until at least Monday 9/4 at 6pm.

GUEST HEALERS & HELPERS

Every year a number of Guest Healers and Helpers join Shamandome on their own time and provide invaluable service to our community. If you are so inclined, come by when you can.
This year, guest practitioners will be invited to use our domes, huts and chill space from 4pm to 6pm for healing and workshop presentations. Best to let us know in advance, but we would love to see you any time we're open to the public. Stop by to say hello - we are always grateful for your supportive energy!

Guest Healers are invited to Shamandome's Opening Dinner on Monday (and the occasional regular meal, as supplies allow).

If you'd like to offer a workshop at Shamandome Camp in Black Rock City as a guest (you're not planning to camp with us), send an email to barnaby.ruhe@gmail.com - with a short bio (50-75 words about yourself and your practice), the title of your workshop, the number of people you can serve at once, the approximate amount of time it will take (2-hour max), and a description of it in two versions:

"Title"
# of people
Duration (# of minutes)
Short Description - 130 character maximum
describe your event in one sentence
Full Description - up to 2000 characters
a long paragraph describing what your workshop is about and what it intends to accomplish in its time frame
